I used to ride a Quest Velomobile with a huge flaming eyeball on it, thus The Flaming Eyeball.
This channel is about riding recumbent bikes, trikes, and velomobiles. I'm also adding occasional VLOG entries.

Yep, that's a lot of big events, but thankfully they're all HAPPY events. :)
Yes, they are!
A worthy tribute. May her memory be eternal
Was just thinking of her the other day as I passed by the place where I was when I found out she passed. Still miss her.
File inner edge with small triangular file ! That's what ,I did nand it works .
Great idea, thanks!
I grew up in Williamsburg in the 50's and 60's until I left for work in 75. I really miss that loop you were on and the Colonial Parkway. I also took that ferry every day when I was back there for a few years working at Surry Nuclear Power Plant, 88-91. Enjoyed the Nostalgiaville. @tommaynard_keyoftreeband
Nice. Come back and visit.
It's of course Red Flaming Eyeball Cicadas making that sound😀
Lol.
Woohoo! A new video! Awesome. Congrats on all of the happenings in your lives. Yes. That noise is cicadas. Our last full year in MD they were out and we heard same noise.
Right? So much going on, and some video recorded, but nothing for my channel. Thanks for the congrats. Lots going on for sure.
@@TheFlamingEyeball My youngest got married last month. Lots going on.
From time to time, lose traction on the rear wheel of my tadpol trike on bad roads, paricularly when on high speed bends on rough surfaces. The wheel slides around but not a big deal, easily contolled by steering
Hopefully it has not resulted in anything that would cause such catastrophic results!
Hi, thanks for your excellent analysis! This 'angular momentum' can be reduced (during initial setup) by ensuring the rider is sitting as much as possible in a FORWARD position, to ensure that the center of gravity is really close to front wheels. For the moment I really enjoy my AeroTilt, but may be one day I'll also buy a 'tadpole velomobile'!
I've been watching you and the Aero-tilt. It is a fine machine!
Maybe the steering geometry is wrong or it is just too narrow for the CG.
I think that velo is set up properly, but no suspension, and tires aired up to the max didn't help with traction.
Nice upgrade! Do you use the soft, medium or hard version of the elastomers?
I use the medium, IIRC.
Congrats on all of the wonderful news! Best wishes to you and Kim for happy holidays and a healthy prosperous new year. Enjoy your upcoming retirement. Once it starts you will wonder how you ever had time to work! I am departing for Florida very early Thursday morning and will be cruising through Virginia while en route. Will give you a call from the road!
Sounds good! have a safe trip, and happy Chanukah to you and Beth!
I'm asked how I'm doing now that I'm retired. I tell them I'm busy - but its "my" busy. Enjoy your busy!
I'm very much looking forward to 'my busy'!
Good to see you keeping busy Jim. Since I got 2 wheels I haven’t been on 3 very much either. Hope to get to the rally in February. You going? Hope your family has a wonderful Christmas.
Have fun! I won't be going this year, as that will be just after the grandbaby arrives! What 2 -wheeler did you get again?
@@TheFlamingEyeball not a 2 wheel recumbent. Been mountain biking and touring. I take out the trike from time to time so I’m not asked, “why do you have that if you’re not going to ride it”. Although after I ride it, it is still the most comfortable thing I own. Options! Got to have them.
Busy year for you and your family. Congratulations on upcoming third wedding! Shop looks great too! No cycling here in VT. Snow and cold here!
Happy holidays! I don't envy the cold conditions at all.
Nice casual ride and video! Im glad you still have warm weather. Got real cold up here in New England but still getting out daily in the fleece lined riding suits. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Guess you'll be southbound very soon.
@@TheFlamingEyeball Leaving weekend around December 15. Looking forward to it. Rode this morning on Cape Cod Canal and it was cold and windy but sunny.
Jim! Gotta check those cameras! I miss the VCT.
It is nice to have a great trail so close.
Nice video Jim! Trail looks awesome! What trike carrier do you have?
Thanks! The VCT is a very nice 52 mile trail stretching from Jamestown to Richmond, VA. It was completed in 2015. I have ridden the whole trail at once multiple times and, have ridden parts of it many more. As for the trike rack, it was a hand-me-down from my good cycling friend Vada (RIP). The decal on it says www.cyclesimplex.com. I found the one I believe I have here: cyclesimplex.com/products/two-trike-heavy-duty-racks-for-trikes-that-weigh-over-70-lbs.
RIP Vada indeed. Thanks Jim!
Great ride and video. Super weather. It was 80/sunny here today and rode the entire Cape Cod Rail Trail. Temp dropping to 40’s for the next week and 30’s at night . It’s time for Florida! Btw…does that rack with 2 trikes seriously impair your visibility while driving?
@markfeldman6509 yes, time for you to head out! Stop by on your way if you're not in a rush. I don't feel there is too much blocked, but of course, there is some. It's not overly distracting for me.
I noticed you are still using the adaptive pedals. I bought a pair but removed most of the hardware except the heal support. Even the weight on the bottom. I really like them.
Yes, still using them. The best reason for me is that they still hold my feet up and keep me from getting leg suck, but more importantly, I can wear my comfy shoes (On Clouds) and not have to wear special cycling shoes. When my feet are in them, no one notices anyway. I have them on my spare trike as well, and it makes it easy for anyone to ride with us, even without special shoes. I took out all the extra weight I could as well. I'm still trying to figure out a way to put them in my velomobile!
Hey Jim! Was wondering where you were. For some reason I’m not seeing new videos when they come out. Workshop looks great, and those projects are always fun to do. Looks like you have your winter beard ready for the cold. Remember you can always come to FL to ride! Hope all is well
I've been here. Not as many weekly videos, just because I've been busy with 'other than cycling projects', but still here. Pretty sure I won't be traveling for the foreseeable future, as we have 2 weddings coming up and a grandbaby too! I do need to get up to PA and ride the GAP with you and Deb, but even funds for that venture are tight right now. I need to sell one of these velomobiles!!
@@TheFlamingEyeball more weddings? I tied my nieces wedding into my PA trip doing the GAP and C&O. I’ve been riding on 2 wheels most of the time these days and mountain biking with my grandson now. That’s been fun. Congrats on your coming grandkid. I take the trike out just because I feel guilty ignoring it all the time. Getting ready to do a FL C2C over Thanksgiving (on 2 wheels). I’m sure we will catch up one of these days.
Yup, two more to go....then retirement!
Great video. Exactly the model and color I hope to buy. Of your 15k views, 4 of them were mine! Thank you for posting.
Well thanks for watching again and again! I know my friend really likes his Dumont.
We have independently "invented" the same bike stand. This works great for my Terra Trike and Catrike
That's great! I just didn't want to spend a lot on a specialized stand.
Got the same belt sander. The little piece of thin metal that the belt rides on broke. I don't know if it's fixable.
They are cheap for sure, but cheap enough that you can simply get another one.
Hey @pearlandvelos244, I noticed that you stopped filming videos....are you still riding?
@@TheFlamingEyeball yeah but my Velomobile needs work and tires. I've been too worn out from work to take the time to fix it right.
@@TheFlamingEyeball it hasn't been right since I changed out the broken crank brackets. The derailleur drags the chainrings and I need an extra set hands to adjust it correctly.
@pearlandvelos244 hopefully that will change. Life seasons.
Looking good!!
Thanks!
awsome workbench !
Thank you! Cheers!
What is the name of the gauge and mag stand that you purchased for this truing stand. I just bought this and want to know exactly what I’m looking for in Harbor freight
I used the 1" Travel Machinist's Dial Indicator (63521), and Multipositional Magnetic base with Fine Adjustment.
Hey Jim, have you seen the '12 gauge garage' that was all over the workshoppy garagey tech forums a while ago? He liked his cabinets for sure although I don't think he used too much wood for it.
I have not, I may need to go look it up. I'm not on that forum.
So I did look into the 12 gauge garage. Interesting concept and ideas, but the one I liked most was something to the effect of "this garage is set up for ME, not anyone else". I like the idea of making a space your own, but using ideas of others to inspire your space.
Good day what the velo price

You're right about the heat. Maybe Ophelia will blow some cooler air our way.
It's cooled quite a bit in RVA.
it has air filters so keep the dust down
Yes, but they are very thin, minimal filters. I suspect I will add an extra one on top where the air intake is.
SEE NOT ALL COPS ARE DICKHEADS A BIG YAT A BOY .....
How tall are you? 6’3” here trying to figure out if I’d fit in a DF XL.
I'm just about 6'1", and there is plenty of room for me. It's just a matter of getting it set up for you, and sometime as little as 1 mm of movement can make a difference. The Intercity Bike website (www.intercitybike.nl/en/df-xl.html) says they will fit a person up to about 200 cm, or 78 inches (6'6"). I also have a red and yellow one for sale: ua-cam.com/video/hdn4dr5xZmQ/v-deo.html

You are a busy man Jim but I’m sure the shop will be great when you are done. Congratulations on the grandchild.
I hope so. It's a lot of work, but I hope it is more in line with what I need when I'm done. I hope to have a place to work on bikes/trikes as well.
Thanks for the helpful vid! I just acquired a TS-7 from the free pile in my condo. At the 3:00 mark, I noticed what looks like a huge dent in the rim.
No dents in these rims might be an optical illusion with the camera. These rims were in perfect condition and still are.
Spousal unit and I are riding a trail in Massachusetts next weekend as part of our 34th Anniversary celebration. Will be great. Not the Cap Traio but should still be fun.
Out riding with the one you love, does the trail matter?
Lol. Not really.
I see so much more on my trike than I could ever see on the road bike. I don’t have to think about balancing the bike. I never realized how much the brain was working to stay balanced until I rode my trike. Rides are more enjoyable.
It seems I can see so much, and enjoy more!
Was that a squirrel moment with the airplane bro? Glad to see the vids coming again
I still look at all the flying machines. I wish I was there!
@@TheFlamingEyeball Totally get it, I do it all the time as well
Do you do any stationary trike riding? If you do, do you have a computer hookup that you can record your inside trip? I have been trying to find a trip computer with a long enough cable to setup on my rear wheel so my indoor stand will be able to record my work out or ride.
No, I do not do any in indoor riding.
Hey Jim, that was a micro short for sure!
Right? I planned on doing another one later, but it took me all day to can some pickles, and make salsa that also was canned by the end of the day. I was tired!
Eh... I thought this was a live broadcast thing. Maybe no riding for me today, either. I have a son whose 19th birthday is today. Also on this day in history, the “shot heard ‘round the world” happened between English soldiers and a group of armed colonists. We the People had had enough. With all that canning, you will be better prepared than many others if and when another revolution takes place.
Still tying out the live and short features...happy birthday to your son!
when the varia radar sends it notification regarding oncoming cars does the Spotify music mute so one can hear the audio notification - like yourself i rely on the audio notification from the Vaira radar
It might mute or go quiet for the briefest second, but honestly, I really can't tell. I know I can usually hear the warning though.
Nice ride! Do you think your old mirrors would work on a Quattro Velo?
I don't see why not. Email me to get more info if you are interested: FlamingEyeballGraphics@gmail.com
Nice pairing of the soundtrack (guitars!) to the ride footage.
Glad you enjoyed it. I try to make things entertaining and informative.
Looks like an incredibly fast and hot ride. Go jump,in your pool!
It was pretty warm, which is why I made it fast! The pool was very nice that day!
Looks like you were flying out there! Hope that you guys are having a great summer.
I averaged 18.6 MPH (29.93 KMH) on that ride. It's pretty hot up here, but still nice enough in the mornings and evenings.
Nice!🔥🔥
Thanks 🔥
Do the cops do anything when you turn in these people. In Wilmington NC they could careless if you kill a cyclist you probation nothing more.
They really can't do anything unless they actually observe the infraction. I can file a report, and it goes into a record. Then, if something happens down the road, they have evidence of a pattern. As far as I know, that is about all they can do.
You should have painted bloodshot eyeballs like Rat Fink. I bet that would be cool since your the Flaming Eyeball.
Maybe so. I do need to add graphics to this new velo. I do have some ideas, I'll have to get them done!
Quite the shop you have there.
I'm a man of many hobbies, and a couple of side businesses!
Thanks for the updated review👍
No problem 👍
